Festive Attire – Come as you are!
Follow the stars…
Star gazers follow their Heavenly Guides, their north stars, lodestars, cynosures, and we are no different. This year we celebrate two of our brightest lights. These two women have built our company from the earliest days, with labor and artistry and their generous gifts. Look, on the horizon, it’s Purva Bedi, shining actor and spirit! See there! By the moon! Hilary Alger, wise counselor and tireless believer! How could we have made our way without these celestial guides? No, we cannot imagine our work without them.
Join us on October 8th as we celebrate these two with a night of artistic astronomy, gastronomic delight, and shared joy. We might even identify a new solar system…
Purva just finished up a a sold-out limited run of Coach Coach with Clubbed Thumb Summerworks at The Wild Project. This hilarious comedy about life coaches by Bailey Williams and directed by Sarah Blush was critically acclaimed in which Sara Holdren from Vulture writes, “There’s a history between the morbid Velma and the buttoned-up Ann (whose all-pink Working Girl silhouette screams Real-Estate Barbie and who keeps reminding everyone that she’s recently married “to a man!”), and every time Millonzi and Bedi are left alone together, the play’s parodic formula gains density and chemistry without losing its humor. Velma gets one of the show’s best jokes when, after a loaded tête-à-tête, Ann huffs, “One of us is going to have to give a straight answer one day.” “Oh,” says Velma, mercilessly indicating Ann’s ring-finger, “one of us already has.”
Purva loved being a part of WP+ Pipeline Festival where she played Elizabeth Marsh in Amina Henry’s When the Other Mary Celeste Sank: An Umweltian Tale directed by Ran Xia and produced by Emma Orme. Photos by Marina Baranova-Suzuki.
From the acclaimed teams that brought the multi-award winning Wolf Play and Public Obscenities to Off-Broadway, Purva played Friar Laurence in Romeo & Juliet at Two River Theatre directed by Dustin Wills and Hanson Jung in a new translation by Hansol Jung. Following this critically acclaimed run, the show transferred to Off-Broadway with NAATCO at the Lynn Angelson Theatre. Purva then recorded her original role as Friar Laurence in the Play On Podcast which is currently available.
